what is the purpose of DISC CLUB?

DISC CLUB was established in response to the overwhelming limitations that were enforced by corporate streaming services and storefronts in the digital age of music and art. DISC CLUB aims to be more than just a digital label, but aims to provide templates for fans and listeners to work with to create copies and own a piece of music physically, while maintaining artistic freedom for the artists involved with the release.

what is the license for the releases published on DISC CLUB? can i distribute and sell copies of the physicals i make?

the artist still maintains the rights with the release unless the artist specifies to be released under an open license, like Creative Commons or in the Public Domain, therefore the artist still has a say in how a release is distributed, whether that be a commercial release or not. licensing will be specified on the page for each release.

what are the requirements and specifications if i want to release on DISC CLUB?

for a release to be published, it must follow the realistic and specified requirements for anyone to burn and create a CD copy, along with artwork:

* a standard single disc release must be under the maximum 80 minute limit, longer releases are permitted but will have to be split in different discs when neccessary.

* the audio files must be numbered in order (01, 02, 03...). if your tracks have titles, they must be in the track listing on the back/front cover, as they won't be listed on the release's webpage

* the audio files for the release must be in the .wav format at a sample rate of 44.1 kHz with a 16-bit depth. audio files can be converted by DISC CLUB if neccessary.

* the release must have artwork provided, including the front and back cover.

* the release must have a URL linking back to the DISC CLUB website (disc-club.neocities.org) ideally on the back cover, but the URL on the front cover is fine aswell.

what releases are not permitted on DISC CLUB?

releases that promote fascism and hate speech (racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.) and releases that contain artwork with gore/NSFL content are not permitted on DISC CLUB. nudity and adult content may be permitted with an 18+ disclaimer for the release page. DISC CLUB has the right to refuse a submission at any given time.

how do i participate in this label and release something?

go back to the label's homepage for the email address listing. keep in mind that it is subject to change.

do you have templates to work with?

both the image files for the front and back covers should be in square format, and the disc labels should have a cut-out circle in the image file. (click here for an example)

can i submit bootlegs and other unauthorized material?

unauthorized remixes (or flips) are permitted if it's created transformatively. bootleg releases are heavily discouraged but can be curated for the label if the source material serves a purpose for archival and preservation, especially if the material is at risk of becoming lost. we reserve the right to decline releases like these, as with original material.
